RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
With so much information available online now it can be extremely hard to navigate which path to take when you're wanting to build a good relationship with your horse. Rather than worrying about complex groundwork patterns or hierarchies, if we want our horses to feel safe around us we need to firstly ensure their needs are being met and then we simply need to be consistently pleasant to be around.
Relationship building can look like:
-
Setting clear boundaries without causing fear
-
Learning to make consistently good choices for our horses that make them feel safe
-
Enjoying enrichment activities together
-
Training with food rewards
-
Holding space together without expectations
-
Learning to read and understand your horse's behaviour and communication
-
Listening when your horse says no
Learning more about your horse and his behaviour can make spending time together so much more rewarding. Building a relationship that prioritises your horse's emotional wellbeing rather than just what we can get them to do for us is so much more fulfilling. I can offer phone consultations or in person sessions. The sessions will start with an initial assessment then move onto some training as appropriate.
