"Is it pain or just behavioural?"

I see this question come up frequently, as if we can sort things away into 2 neat little boxes of "pain" or "behaviour".

Either the horse is in specific, diagnosable pain or it's "just" behavioural and we are therefore free to train through with the horse however we see fit.
